Cats are considered free roaming animals. There is no law in Middlesex County that pertains to loose or roaming cats, so animal control does not pick up cats that appear to be stray.
Animal Control will impound cats that have bitten a person or are sick or severely injured. We recommend that all cat owners keep their cats contained and on their own property to avoid injury or death of their pet, not to mention the nuisance the cats can cause your neighbors.
Cats are required, as per state law, to have rabies vaccination up to date.
Humane Society
The Gloucester Mathews Humane Society will accept cats from citizens from Middlesex if space is available. If no space is available, they will put you on a waiting list. Their phone number is 804-693-4047.
